Washington sports betting is finally legal in the state! We were worried we would never see the day when Evergreen State residents would get to place bets on sporting events.
We’ve got all the hot tips on how to find the best Washington sports betting sites — both land-based and online sportsbooks.
Find out how to snag the best welcome bonuses and ongoing promos, and discover which sportsbooks have the largest selection of sporting events and betting types in the state.
Is Sports Betting Legal in Washington State?
Yes! Sports betting is now (finally!) legal in Washington State. Sportsbooks have been opening across the state, from Seattle to Snohomish, to Spokane. Find out everything there is to know about Washington sports betting, including land-based and online sports betting.
Legal Betting Age in Washington State
The Washington State legal betting age is 18 and up. Yet, most casinos don’t accept bets from anyone under the age of 21, as many also serve alcohol
Before heading to a land-based sportsbook, check to make sure you’re of legal betting age.
Washington’s only online casino, Snoqualmie Casino, only accepts bets from players aged 21 and older.
Unfortunately for Washington State residents, free online casinos and social casinos aren’t legal within the state. Though you only need to be 18 years old to buy gold coins and sweeps packages on these platforms, you’ll need to be geographically located in any other state in order to do so.
Online Sports Betting
Only one platform is accepting online sports bets right now, and that is Snoqualmie Casino. You need to head down to the casino to prove your identity and register for an online betting account.
You also need to be located physically within state boundaries before placing a bet online, whether it’s on the website or mobile app. You’ll need to download geo-tracking software to prove you are located within state lines before placing a bet.
There are currently nine land-based sportsbooks that accept sports bets in Washington State. These sportsbooks are either owned by tribal nations or have partnered with a local tribal nation to provide in-person sports betting within the state.
Free Online Sportsbooks/Casinos
Currently, it is still illegal for free online sportsbooks and casinos, like Chumba and Funzpoints, to accept payments from Washington State residents.
While residents of other states ages 18 and over have been able to play at free online casinos and sportsbooks for several years, it’s still illegal in Washington State (Washington is the only state that hasn’t legalized free online sportsbooks and casinos for its residents).
If you’re at least 18 years old and travel to a neighboring state, such as Oregon, Idaho (or even Canada), you can play at free online casinos.
Washington State Sports Betting Taxes
Washington taxes are a little… different than they are in other states.
Just as the state of Washington does not collect personal income tax, it also doesn’t collect gambling tax from online casinos and sportsbooks — though, individual cities and counties may collect taxes from these organizations.
What Washington State does collect is a tax on sports bet winnings, meaning you’ll need to claim any winnings on the tax return that corresponds with the year you collected your winnings. Just as if you were to win the lottery, you need to pay taxes on any money you win while placing sports bets in Washington.
Is Washington Sports Betting Legit?
Yes, as long as you place bets with registered, licensed, and verified sportsbooks, betting is legit in the state of Washington.
If you’re worried about whether or not a sportsbook is legit, you only need to ensure it's registered and licensed in Washington State. Also, we don’t review any sportsbooks that aren’t legally allowed to operate in the U.S., so you can always check the legitimacy of a platform in our reviews before signing up for an account.
Washington State (and all states for that matter) have strict laws that regulated who can operate land-based and online sportsbooks and accept bets from state residents.
All land-based and online sportsbooks must be licensed and registered. This is overseen by the Washington State Gambling Commission in Washington State.
Most online sportsbooks offer generous welcome bonuses to entice players to bet at their platform — and not someone else’s.
Make sure to read the terms and conditions and fine print before depositing your money into a sportsbook account. Most online sportsbooks have wagering or betting requirements that must be satisfied before you can withdraw any winnings made with welcome bonus funds.
For example, a sportsbook may require you to wager 10 times the amount of the welcome bonus with your own funds before cashing out winnings made with welcome bonuses. If you claimed a welcome bonus of $100, you’ll need to bet $1,000 of your own money before cashing out winnings made with your welcome bonus.
Washington Online Sports Betting: What to Look For
Right now, the online sports betting options are a little slim in Washington State. Yet, we don’t expect that to last for long. Soon, we expect there to be a long list of online sportsbooks and casinos.
What should you look for when choosing a Washington sports betting platform?
A good selection of sports betting options, including a variation in sports types as well as betting types. Online sportsbooks should also offer a mobile betting app and a browser betting option. You’ll also want to look for online sportsbooks that offer generous welcome bonuses as well as plenty of payment and withdrawal options.
All online sportsbooks worth their salt should also offer plenty of ways to contact customer service as well as information on responsible betting.
Washington Sportsbook Sports Offerings
Washington sportsbooks are set to offer betting on a wide variety of sporting events. From baseball to hockey to soccer and more, you can place bets on just about any major sporting event in the country.
Some of the most popular sporting events to place bets on include:
- Major League Baseball
- National Hockey League
- Major League Soccer
- National Basketball Association
- United States Tennis Association
You can also bet on college sports, minor league sports, and less popular sporting events, such as MMA, ping-pong, snooker, and more.
If you’re betting online, you can even place your bets right at the sporting event! You’ll need to be of legal betting age, within state lines, and have an account on a legit betting app or mobile website.
One of the reasons we love online sports betting is because you can enjoy the event the way it was intended (at the event itself, a sports bar, or a friend’s house) without missing out on any betting fun.
Mobile Betting Apps in Washington State
If you’re planning on placing sports bets online in Washington State, you’ll want to choose a platform that offers a mobile app with a good user experience. Apps should be available for both Android and iOS platforms.
Right now, there’s only one online sportsbook in Washington State, operated by Snoqualmie Casino. To activate your account on the mobile app, you’ll need to head to the Snoqualmie Casino Box Office between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM Thursday through Sunday to activate your account.
You’ll need to bring with you:
- Valid photo ID
- Crescent Club membership card
- Completed W-9
You’ll also need to review and accept the Snoqualmie Casino Sportsbook App terms and conditions and add funds to your account before placing bets.
Washington Online Sportsbook Welcome Bonuses
One of the benefits of betting at online sportsbooks in Washington is taking advantage of all the welcome bonuses and ongoing bonuses! Right now, there may not be a lot of welcome bonuses at Washington online sportsbooks, as there’s only one online sportsbook currently!
As more online sportsbooks open, they start offering welcome bonuses to stay competitive and lure potential customers away from other sportsbooks.
Just some of the welcome bonuses you might start to see include first-deposit matches, no-deposit matches, and risk-free bets.
One of the most lucrative welcome bonuses is the first-deposit match. This is when an online sportsbook or casino offers to match the dollar amount of your first deposit.
Since you need to deposit your own money to get this bonus, these are some of the most generous welcome bonuses you’ll find. These bonuses are only offered on your first deposit and when you use an affiliate link and/or welcome bonus code.
To check for welcome bonuses, head to an online sportsbook’s page on OddsSeeker, follow the link, and use the code (if applicable).
To claim a no-deposit match welcome bonus, you won’t need to deposit any of your own money! Simply use the affiliate link and code (if applicable) and indicate you’re claiming a no-deposit match at the time you sign up for your account.
No-deposit matches aren’t as generous as other welcome bonuses, as you won’t need to deposit any of your own money to claim this type of bonus.
They’re a great way to familiarize yourself with an online sportsbook and try out a few bets before betting with your own money.
Risk-free bets are a great way to try out different types of bets on an online sportsbook.
With these bets, you won’t lose any of your own funds if you lose the bet. Depending on the site, you also might not get to keep any of the winnings, either — so you should always check before placing one of these bets!
Either way, they’re a great way to try out bets and online sportsbooks without worrying about losing any of your account funds.
To claim a risk-free bet, follow the OddsSeeker link and use the welcome bonus code (if applicable).
Ongoing Promos at Washington Sportsbooks
Most online and land-based sportsbooks offer ongoing promos to keep loyal bettors happy! Snoqualmie Casino offers a long list of ongoing promos to keep you coming back for more betting fun.
Also known as login bonuses, free bets are exactly how they sound. Free bets you can place simply by logging into your account when they’re offered.
Many online sportsbooks and casinos also offer holiday bonuses, weekly bonuses, jackpots, and other ways to maximize even more betting options.
Most online and land-based casinos also offer loyalty and rewards programs to keep loyal bettors happy. You may need to sign up for a loyalty account when signing up for your sportsbook account, but many sportsbooks enroll you automatically.
The more you bet, the more points you accrue. Accrue more points to achieve higher tier levels. Once you get to a certain status, you’ll be able to get free bets, prizes, and more.
Washington Online Sportsbook Payments and Withdrawals
Online sportsbooks should offer a decent list of payment and withdrawal types. The most common payment and withdrawal types include debit and credit cards, ACH bank transfer and e-check, digital wallets, Play+ cards, and cash at the casino cage.
Most online sportsbooks accept payments by credit and debit card (with the Visa or MasterCard logos on the card).
Not all banks will do business with online casinos, so check with your bank before trying to make a payment with a debit or credit card. You may also need to check with the platform to see if they cash out winnings on debit or credit cards, as many only offer these as a form of payment and not as a means of cashing out your winnings.
Payments can usually be made instantly — and funds are usually available for immediate use at online platforms. Withdrawals usually take up to several business days to complete.
Nearly every online sportsbook accepts either ACH transfer or e-check as a form of payment or withdrawal. Check with each individual platform to find out which form of transfer they accept and how long processing times may take.
Digital wallets, such as PayPal and Skrill are popular forms of payment and withdrawal at most online sportsbooks. Skrill was created specifically for online betting, so it’s usually accepted at more platforms than PayPal.
Check with the individual platforms for payment and withdrawal processing times.
Play+ cards are another form of payment that was created specifically for the casino and sportsbook industry.
You may be able to cash out your winnings instantly with the Play+ card. Simply transfer your account balance to the card, and use your card to make purchases at major retailers. Or, use your card at the ATM to withdraw cash.
You can usually deposit and withdraw cash instantly at a land-based sportsbook cage for immediate use with your online account. Simply head to the land-based sportsbook to make your deposit or withdrawal.
Washington Sports Betting Customer Service
All sportsbooks offer some form of customer service. Most sportsbooks offer customer service via frequently asked question pages and email. Some even offer live chat online or phone customer service.
If a sportsbook is legit, it will have a valid way to contact customer service. At the very least, you should be able to contact someone for help through social media — though we haven’t come across any legit platform that only offers this type of service.
In accordance with state betting laws, sportsbooks must offer some form of responsible betting support. This is usually in the form of toll-free support lines and wagering and deposit caps.
All sportsbooks will only allow you to deposit or bet up to a certain amount of money per day and per week. You can also lower these amounts yourself if you’re worried about responsible betting.
You can also call the National Problem Gambling Helpline Network (1-800-522-4700), operated by the National Council on Problem Gambling for help and resources.
Best Online Sportsbooks Washington State
Are you ready to start placing online sports bets in Washington State? Currently, only one casino is accepting online bets in Washington, but that doesn’t mean that more won’t follow shortly.
Snoqualmie Casino is the only online sportsbook that may legally accept bets from Washington State residents.
Located at 37500 SE North Bend Way, Snoqualmie, Washington, this land-based casino now has an app, where you can place sports bets and play online casino games. You do need to head down to the land-based casino to set up your online account and verify your ID before placing sports bets online.
Snoqualmie doesn’t currently offer any welcome bonuses (it doesn’t have any online competition in Washington State just yet, so why would it?), but this platform does offer plenty of ongoing promos to keep rewards members happy.
Best Washington Sports Books
While there aren’t a whole lot of online sportsbooks in Washington State (yet), there are a lot of land-based casinos that have partnered with nationally-recognized sportsbooks to offer in-person sports betting within the state.
We anticipate that some of the larger names in sports will push to open online portals for Washington State residents, too.
Right now, DraftKings is one of the few mainstream nationally-recognized sportsbooks that is not operated within Washington State.
DraftKings Sportsbook is currently legal in the following states:
- New Hampshire
- New Jersey
- New York
- West Virginia
Of course, being one of the largest names in sports betting, we can only assume that this sportsbook is pushing to partner with a Washington State casino or sportsbook in the near future.
Caesars/Spokane Tribe Casino/Muckleshoot Casino
Caesars Casino and Sportsbook, one of the largest names in betting, has partnered with Muckleshoot Casino and the Spokane Tribe Casino to offer sports betting to Washington State residents.
Bettors in other states can get a first-deposit match of up to $1,500 by using the OddSeeker link and the promo code ODDSSEEKER15.
BetMGM/Emerald Queen Casino
Another huge name in betting, BetMGM, the MGM Grand’s online casino and sportsbook, has partnered with the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma to bring sports betting to Washington State residents.
Bettors in other states can get a risk-free bet of up to $1,000 by using the OddSeeker link and the promo code ODDSSEEKER.
FanDuel Sportsbook/Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort
The final nationally-recognized sportsbook on this list that has partnered with a land-based tribal casino in Washington State is FanDuel, which has partnered with the Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort in Suquamish, Washington.
Bettors in other states can get a risk-free bet of up to $1,000 by using the OddSeeker link.
Snoqualmie Casino hasn’t partnered with any big-name nationally-recognized sportsbook. Instead, it launched its own sports betting app — which is the only app in the state that’s accepting online sportsbook bets.
Of course, the Snoqualmie Casino in Snoqualmie, Washington, is also accepting sports bets at its land-based location, too.
Angel of the Winds Casino
Angel of the Winds Casino, located in Arlington, Washington, is also now accepting sports bets from players North of Seattle (or anyone who wants to drive out to their resort in Arlington).
The casino has yet to partner with a nationally-recognized sportsbook.
Turf Club Sports Book
The Turf Club Sports Book, located just outside of Spokane, Washington, has recently opened to accept sports bets from residents in the eastern part of the state (and those who want to travel to Airway Heights from Idaho, too).
Northern Quest Resort & Casino
Also located in Airway Heights, just outside of Spokane, Washington, is the Northern Quest Resort & Casino. This casino will be accepting sports bets from Western Washington residents as well as Idaho residents who travel the short drive across the border.
Tulalip Resort Casino/Quil Ceda Creek Casino
Tulalip Resort Casino and Quil Ceda Creek Casino, both located in Tulalip, Washington, are now accepting sports bets from Washington State residents, too.
Neither has partnered with a nationally-recognized sportsbook, so only time will tell if these land-based casinos will offer any type of online betting (or their own app or platform) in the future.
