In this day and age, does a professional sports team’s value make it more likely to win a championship? Yes and no. The rich do get richer in the big three (NFL, NBA, MLB) but having millions of fans worldwide means plenty even if the product is crummy (ahem, Knicks: Valued at $5.8 billion. Last NBA championship: 1973).

But today we’re talking about the National Football League, the gold standard of sports.

The Dallas Cowboys, despite not winning a Super Bowl since 1996, easily remain “America’s Team” – at least when it comes to its perceived worth: a whopping, staggering $6.5 billion.

And that figure might be low considering Forbes fired out that figure in August 2021. Other experts suggest the number now might be closer to $8.5 billion. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has publicly stated that he believes he could sell his beloved franchise for $10 billion.

Whatever those insane first-world country calculations might really be, who knows. Of this writing, money matters could have changed by a ton. Example: The Denver Broncos, valued by Forbes less than a year ago at $3.75 billion, are expected to sell for $5 billion. Forget the gas pumps, chumps, that’s real inflation right there. Sigh.

For now, we’ll go with those August 2022 values and we’ll look at the current odds of those high-priced teams actually winning the Super Bowl (LVII, that’s 57) on Feb. 12, 2023.

Odds are courtesy of our friends at FanDuel. You can find odds at New Jersey Online Casinos and elsewhere in the wonderful land of OddsSeeker.com

1. Dallas Cowboys (Value: $6.5 billion)

  • Last Super Bowl win: 1996
  • Current odds to win Super Bowl 57: +1200
  • Worth the risk?  I like that value at 12-1. Throw a little at Dax Prescott and Co.

2. New England Patriots (Value: $5 billion)

  • Last Super Bowl win: 2018
  • Current odds to win Super Bowl 57: +4000
  • Worth the risk? Not a chance. Bill Belichick’s crew faces way too much talent in the AFC and may not even make the playoffs.

3. New York Giants (Value: $4.85 billion)

  • Last Super Bowl win: 2018
  • Current odds to win Super Bowl 57: +8000
  • Worth the risk? The G-Men had a solid draft but this team is years away from being good.

4. Los Angeles Rams ($4.8 billion)

  • Last Super Bowl win: 2022
  • Current odds to win Super Bowl 57: +1100
  • Worth the risk? A Super Bowl repeat champion hasn’t occurred since the Patriots in 2003-2004, but I like the Rams – who may have gotten better in the offseason – at those odds.

5. Washington Commanders (Value: $4.3 billion)

  • Last Super Bowl win: 1992
  • Current odds to win Super Bowl 57: +7000
  • Worth the risk? No. The Commanders will be on the far side of the world championship. Masters, they are not.

6. San Francisco 49ers (Value: $4.175 billion)

  • Last Super Bowl win: 1995
  • Current odds to win Super Bowl 57: +1600
  • Worth the risk? Not for me. Some like the Niners chances after knocking out the Packers in last year’s playoffs, but there’s still uncertainty at QB and I don’t like that.

7. Chicago Bears (Value: $4.075 billion)

  • Last Super Bowl win: 1986
  • Current odds to win Super Bowl 57: +10000
  • Worth the risk? Da Bears! Da … No! Sadly, Chicago fans, there won’t be any playoffs and not even a winning record.

8. New York Jets (Value: $4.05 billion)

  • Last Super Bowl win: 1969
  • Current odds to win Super Bowl 57: +15000
  • Worth the risk? What if the Jets A+ draft lives up to the hype and Zach Wilson turns into Broadway Joe and … and – Stop. They’re 150-1 odds for many, many reasons.

9. Philadelphia Eagles (Value: $3.8 billion)

  • Last Super Bowl win: 2018
  • Current odds to win Super Bowl 57: +2800
  • Worth the risk? Yeah, sprinkle some at these odds, which continue to drop. Bettors like the A.J. Brown trade to Philly (so do I) and the NFC East is weak. The Eagles will at least make the playoffs so there will be a shot at reaching the Super Bowl.

10. Denver Broncos (Value: $3.75 billion)

  • Last Super Bowl win: 1995
  • Current odds to win Super Bowl 57: +1700
  • Worth the risk? The Russell Wilson effect has hit the Mile High City and elsewhere around the country as Denver is now the Super Bowl darling? Go for it, but my money on an AFC West team to reach the Super Bowl in Glendale, Ariz., next February is the Los Angeles Chargers, also at +1700, so take your pick.
