2024 NFL Playoffs: Latest Odds After Jets Land Aaron Rodgers

It’s finally done, folks.
From the darkness to the light. Aaron Rodgers will be playing daylight games in New York next season after the Jets finally finished the inevitable, sure-to-be-soon (right?) done deal for Packers star Aaron Rodgers.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported it first here.
Here’s what Green Bay gets.
The 13th pick (first round), 42nd (second round), and 207th pick (sixth round) in this year’s draft, which begins Thursday, and a second-round pick in 2024 that will become a first-round pick in the event that Rodgers plays 65 percent of Jets offensive snaps next season.
“Trade compensation, per sources:
Jets get:
Aaron Rodgers, pick No. 15, a 2023 5th-rd pick (No. 170).
Packers get:
Pick No. 13, a 2023 2nd-rd pick (No. 42), a 6th-rd pick (No. 207), a conditional 2024 2nd-rd pick that becomes a 1st if Rodgers plays 65 percent of the plays.”
It’s a good, solid haul for the Packers who clearly were done with Rodgers and he with them.
Here’s a fun bit from Schefter:
“Although Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath gave Rodgers his blessing to wear No. 12, the new Jets quarterback is expected to wear No. 8 -- the number he wore in college at Cal, a source told Schefter.”
Jets fans are probably already trying to order them – and possibly 2024 Super Bowl (Feb. 11, 2024) tickets as well.
New Yorkers will have – sing along to Sinatra with me, would ya? – hiiiigh hopes.
Yes, they will.
This is the second legendary Packers quarterback to be traded from Green Bay to the Jets. The other one you may have heard of: Brett Favre.
Favre was 39 years old when he was dealt to the Jets back in 2008.
He played one season, had a so-so passer rating of 81.0 with 3,472 yards, 22 touchdowns and 22 interceptions, and the Jets went 9-7 that year to miss the postseason.
Guess how old Rodgers is? Yup. 39.
Guess what I’m predicting the Jets won’t do this season? Certainly not win the Super Bowl and not even get there.
If he does get this new Gang Green to the Super Bowl, and they somehow win the damn thing, he’ll be the most famous New York Jets player ever not named Joe Namath.
But I’m calling it right now that history will repeat itself: The Jets will finish the season 9-7 and miss the playoffs. The AFC is simply too loaded.
So, with that said, let’s look at the latest NFL playoff odds (courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook) for the upcoming season and what’s the latest on the Jets (these are certain to be fluid from now, Monday, April 24, until the end of this week’s NFL Draft).
One more quick note: Back on Feb. 13, the Jets were listed anywhere from +3000 to +2500 to win the Super Bowl and then when news broke that Rodgers was interested in playing for the Jets, those odds plummeted to +1600.
They’re now +1400 and I’ll bet that changes by tonight.

As far as the AP NFL Regular Season MVP award for 2023-24 goes, Rodgers is the seventh betting choice to win it behind six other quarterbacks including the favorites, in order: Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson.
Don’t believe for a minute that Rodgers is winning MVP this season. New team, new conference … I mean it worked out for Tom Brady in Tampa so maybe.
Doubt it, though.

Look, there is a ton to like about the Jets.
They finished fourth overall last season in points per game allowed (18.6) and total yards allowed (311.1).
They have the reigning Rookies of the Year in Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson, badasses both.
But they also face the sixth-hardest schedule in the NFL this next season and the most difficult in the AFC East, a division I don’t think they’re winning.
That would be the Bills or the Dolphins. Current odds from FD:
AFC East Winner 2023-24
Buffalo Bills +130
New York Jets +250
Miami Dolphins +290
New England Patriots +750
