“If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.”

– George Orwell.

A tad off-topic about what Mr. 1984 was talking about but so what, listen up: It’s difficult to run the table in college football these days with the parity, transfer portals, and the many talented players scattered across the country.

But I’ll bet you a dollar or ten that there are two teams that will go undefeated this season.

One, perhaps, will surprise you.

The other, and most obvious – Georgia – is so good and their schedule is so soft – that most sportsbooks have taken them off the board.

They’re the overwhelming No. 1-ranked team in the country.

I’ve already predicted that they’re gonna three-peat. So the only question now is: Who else will make the final four-team playoff before it turns to 12 next season?

We’ll get to that later this week.

For now, let’s jump on board a team that is flying under the radar but has the most manageable schedule in the entire nation, according to College Football News: Liberty.

Yeah, you read that right.

Sure, former head coach Hugh Freeze left for Auburn, but he’s left a bunch of intriguing talent in the cupboard. There’s lots to like about this team even if you don’t agree with the school’s history or faith. We won’t even get into that, but you can read about its doctrine here. And honestly not judging. All bets are off when it comes to football, religion, and gambling combined, right? Can I get a witness?!

But let’s get serious and honestly move on to a somber fact: First-year Liberty head coach Jamey Chadwell is managing a group with heavy hearts following the unexpected, but reportedly non-football-related death of freshman offensive lineman Tajh Boyd, who was just 19.

Sincere condolences, family and friends.

Losing a teammate often affects a team’s season outcome.

It’s certainly happened for the University of Utah, which dealt with two tragedies– twice in nine months. Man, that was a tough stretch. And yet, somehow, it galvanized the program. A band of brothers, indeed, marched on and won two consecutive Pac-12 championships. A third could be in the cards … unless it’s Oregon State.

But on a happier note, what I like about Liberty is this: the bell – You thought I was going elsewhere with that, didn’t you? Kidding.

Anyhow, the pursuit of happiness is apparent on this young running back’s face and I believe he’s going to have an awesome season. Remember this dude’s name: Dae Dae Hunter.

The kid from Colorado is only 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds and he missed four games last season due to injury, so clearly he must remain healthy by staying out of harm's way this year. But he is shifty and quick and averaged 6.6 yards per carry a season ago and was dominant in a couple of games (including a monster 213-yard dazzling display against BYU).

He’s also a dual threat. He’ll certainly be catching more passes out of the backfield this year.

Plus, he’ll be paired with true freshman running back Vaughan Blue who has been impressive in drills and scrimmages since April.

The Flames will punish teams in the rushing game this year and they’ll ball control and slow the roll because their outstanding defense from a year ago lost a bunch of big playmakers.

We’ll delve into their potential under totals as the season approaches.

As far as the rest of the offense, Chadwell will figure it out. The QB situation is not yet set in stone but with those running backs I don’t think it’s going to matter.

So, now, let’s get to the odds.

NCAAF Teams to Go Undefeated In 2023 Regular Season Odds

The team must play their full 12- or 13-game regular season schedule for bets to stand unless the result is unequivocally determined.

Michigan +240

Ohio State +310

Clemson +380

Alabama +420

USC +470

Texas +700

Florida State +700

LSU +700

Oklahoma +750

Oregon +850

Tulane +850

Liberty +900

Washington +950

Penn State +1000

Air Force +1300

Tennessee +1400

Toledo +1500

Utah +1600

Wisconsin +1600

Memphis +1700

Kansas State +1800

UCLA +1800

Louisville +2000

Notre Dame +2000

James Madison +2000

Oregon State +2100

OK, so I like Utah and Oregon State’s chances in the Pac-12 this year, but going undefeated? Doubt it. Too much depth, tough road games, and dark rainy nights in the Pacific Northwest on hostile nights. Nobody’s getting out of those schedules unscathed.

Same with the Big 10.

Georgia’s schedule is a damn gift so jump on that if you can find it anywhere.

Finally, it’s pretty telling that Liberty is listed at just +900, but that’s still a good value because I don’t see them losing one game.

Wins in BOLD (spoiler alert: all of them).
