College Football 2023 Heisman Trophy Dark Horses To Bet On Now

Most college football fans know that former Ohio State running back Archie Griffin is the only player in college football history to win the Heisman Trophy twice – and he did it way back in 1974 and 1975.
So, yeah, it’s been a bit. Some people call it the Archie Griffin Curse and believe it will never be duplicated again.
However, right out of the gate, let’s acknowledge that last year’s Heisman winner, USC star quarterback Caleb Williams, had a great 2023 debut–but it was against San Jose State.
Not exactly world beaters, those Spartans.
But the leader of the Trojans, and future No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick, was great, completing 18 of 25 passes and finishing with four TDs and zero interceptions.
USC is going to coast to a 6-0 start and Williams will have fun field days against, in order: Nevada, Stanford, Arizona State, Colorado, and Arizona.
After that, things get interesting.
On Oct. 14, the Trojans travel to South Bend, Ind. to take on Notre Dame.
After that, it’s games against Utah, Washington, Oregon and UCLA.
Not ideal.
But back to the Fighting Irish, who demolished Navy in their opener which gets us to our first value bet to win the Heisman and prevent Williams from a repeat.
Sam Hartman.
Granted it was against a defenseless Navy squad — somewhat ironic – but Hartman (a transfer from Wake Forest) was incredibly efficient, finishing 19 of 23 passing (82.6 percent), four touchdowns and zero interceptions.
That upcoming QB showdown on Oct. 14 could decide the Heisman.
Unless it’s the next guy I’ll mention here in a bit.
Also, Notre Dame still has to face Ohio State (at home on Sept. 23) and Clemson (on the road on Nov. 4).

If you’re truly brave, bet on Harrison Jr. who would become just the fourth wide receiver to win the Heisman. But the dude could do it. He’s that talented. However, with the Buckeyes undecided on who’s really the No. 1 QB – Kyle McCord will start against Indiana in Week 1 – I’d stay away.
But I absolutely would grab this bet on Harrison Jr.
OK, but in closing, I’d throw a little at Hartman and also quarterback extraordinaire Jordan Travis who’s finally figured it out at Florida State.
He’s gotten better each season and he’s surrounded by a talented bunch. I wrote about how you should seriously consider FSU to make the CFP playoffs and possibly win it all.
I think the Seminoles will be that good. It all starts this Sunday (Sept. 3 against LSU).
We’ll learn plenty from Thursday night (Florida vs. Utah, Boise State vs. Washington) through Sunday night.
Happy college football season, everyone, from every school. Hope it all goes well and, as always, best of luck.
