Near-Miss: Woman Pulls Winning $3 Million Michigan Lottery Ticket Out Of Her Spam Folder
There are a lot of opportunities you can find to hit great wins in the Great Lake State, from sports betting, to online casino gaming, to online lottery games offered through platforms like Jackpocket and the Michigan Online Lottery.
But imagine if you wound up missing one of the greatest wins of your lifetime, in what would surely go down as one of the most significant, capital-L Ls of your lifetime. That would probably give you enough cause to kick yourself for the remainder of your lifetime, wouldn’t it?
Laura Spears, a 55-year-old woman from Oakland County, Michigan, was dangerously close to missing one of the greatest wins of her lifetime. She played the Michigan Lottery’s online drawing last New Year’s Eve, and not receiving any updates from the drawing, Spears naturally assumed that nothing came out of purchasing that fateful December 31st ticket.
Some time came to pass, the ticket naturally slipped out of her mind, and rather than being compelled to check her email by the missing ticket, it was actually a missing friend’s email that motivated her to peep her spam folder. Thank goodness Spears got that second missed message, because it drew her attention to the life-changing revelation that she hit the Michigan Lottery’s $3 Million jackpot!
“A few days later, I was looking for a missing email from someone, so I checked the spam folder in my email account,” she continued. “That’s when I saw an email from the Lottery saying I had won a prize. I couldn’t believe what I was reading, so I logged in to my Lottery account to confirm the message in the email. It’s all still so shocking to me that I really won $3 million!”
The five white New Year’s Eve raffle balls matched the five numbers on Spears’ ticket, 02-05-30-46-61. The original jackpot was a $1 million lump sum, a nice win in its own right, but because she spent a little extra to add a Megaplier bonus to her ticket, Laura’s prize multiplied three times over into a hefty $3 million grand prize!
