Oneil Cruz Helps Pirates Cruise To Victory in MLB Debut

Before we get too ahead of ourselves, we have to remember–it was one game. Sure, if last night was at all any implication of what Pirates fans can expect from Cruz every game, he’ll be a surefire Hall of Famer. But we all know that won’t be the case. Just like with every rookie, there will be mistakes, bad games, errors, and more. But it never hurts to make a good first impression–and Cruz did much more than that.
In his eagerly anticipated debut, Cruz collected two hits, two runs, and four RBIs. He helped the Pirates to a 12-1 victory over the Cubs, and was able to flash his talents all over the field. Not only did he hit the ball hard, but he threw the ball hard too, claiming the top spot for the hardest throw from shortstop to first base on the season, having his hurl clocked in at almost 97 mph.
Oneil Cruz becomes one of the many prospects that have already been called up around baseball so far this season, joining this list of Hall of Fame hopefuls:
- Julio Rodriguez
- Adley Rutschman
- CJ Abrams
- Michael Harris
- MJ Melendez
Michael Harris (outfielder for the Braves) is the NL Rookie of the Year favorite so far, but if last night was any indication of what we could expect from Cruz, then he’ll surely give him a run for his money.
