Baker Mayfield has been named the starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers which is no surprise and was an easy call.

Now, though, some pundits are predicting that Mayfield will win the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award. Don’t buy into that.

However, that award will go to a Panther: Christian McCaffrey.

Though he’s played only 10 games the past two seasons, and injuries will always be a concern, he looks like he’s back to the amazing form he showed in the 2018 and 2019 seasons when, during 32 games, he rushed for 2,485 yards and 22 touchdowns and also had 223 catches for 1,872 yards and 10 more TDs.

He was named second-team All-Pro in 2018 and first-team All-Pro in 2019.

Plus, he’s still only 26 years old. If Mayfield can play competently enough (and sure maybe throw a little at him while the odds at BetMGM are good (+1400) and you can get a matching deposit as well.

McCaffrey’s odds are anywhere from +750 to +900, which you can currently get from Caesars Sportsbook, one of our favorites, and is also offering a great bonus.

Carolina simply needs Mayfield to play competently and complete quick throws to McCaffrey so he can do his thing which is to zip around the field.

I expect he’ll set a career mark in receptions as he’s utilized more as a sort of slot receiver/running back in order to take the load off his punishing rushes.

Bettors are starting to believe the Panthers will be improved in 2022, even though by most metrics they’ll be favored in just two of their 17 games, which is why I wouldn’t take the over 6.5 wins. That means winning seven. Not happening.

But what will happen is McCaffrey having an excellent season and winning Comeback Player of the Year.
