Thursday Night Football Best Bets: Washington Commanders at Chicago Bears

Week five is in the books, so it’s time to set our sights on week six. We’ll be welcomed into week six this Thursday night, as the Washington Commanders will travel to Chicago to take on the Bears. While this may not be the prettiest game on paper, it has the potential to be a sloppy, gritty game that actually turns out to be a pleasure to watch. It will definitely be better than last week's game, where we saw the Colts beat the Broncos by a score of 12-9. That’s right, not a single touchdown was scored. BUT, if you were lucky enough to take my bets last week, you would’ve gone 3-1! That brings my season record to 8-7, so I’m finally in the 50% and up club.
I will be giving out another four best bets for this Thursday’s game, and hopefully, I’ll be able to bolster my record even more. Best Bet #1: Justin Fields UNDER 41.5 Rushing Yards (-110)
Justin Fields has had some trouble throwing the ball so far this season–through five weeks he’s only completed 49 passes for 679 yards, completing only three passes for TDs (and four for interceptions). However, he’s actually done a decent job running the ball. He’s got 194 yards on the season through 42 attempts and has 7+ rushes in each game so far this season. Unfortunately for him, I predict some trouble here for Fields in week six. The Commanders have really only gone up against one mobile quarterback this year, and that was in week three against the Eagles. While Jalen Hurts rushed the ball nine times, he only managed to accumulate 20 yards–so this Commanders’ defense has proven the ability to contain mobile QBs.
Best Bet #2: First Chicago Bears Drive Result Field Goal Attempt (+320)
Of the five games the Bears have played so far this season, they’ve actually attempted (and made) a field goal on the first drive in three of them. When I first started researching this, I was ready to hammer the punt option (which is at -125). However, the Bears have proven the ability to drive down the field early and attempt a field goal. And remember, the world ATTEMPT is key here–they don’t even have to make the field goal in order for your bet to cash.
Best Bet #3: Brian Robinson Jr OVER 45.5 Rushing Yards (-115)
So this might be a bit of a rat bet, because who wouldn’t love to root for Robinson this week? Regardless of whether or not it’s a trick, there’s a strong possibility it will happen. The Bears have been getting run all over so far this season, allowing an average of 124.40 yards to opposing running backs. The Commanders have a ton of choices between McKissic, Gibson, and Robinson Jr, but Robinson got 9 carries last week, so they’ll probably be looking his way Thursday night as well.
Best Bet #4: Justin Fields OVER 175.5 Passing Yards (-115)
I might be shooting myself in the foot here, but I really think Fields is going to have a decent game passing the ball this Thursday night. The Commanders have allowed 176+ passing yards in all of their games so far this year, and have one of the worst pass defenses in the league. Fields passed for 208 yards last week and 174 yards the week before, so he’s shown the ability to hit that number (or at least get close).
