As if Wrigley Field in Chicago wasn’t already cool enough, DraftKings has opened a huge new state-of-the-art bar, restaurant, and sports betting facility connected to the iconic stadium.

Here are the highlights per the DK official site: “Adjacent to historic Wrigley Field, DraftKings Sportsbook is the premier destination for entertainment. Feel the energy as you follow the action on a custom-built 2,000-square-foot HD LED display with state-of-the-art 4-Zone Directional Sound. Enjoy views of every TV from one of more than 300 dedicated seats.”

As far as eats go: “American cuisine meets modern innovation. Enjoy artisan burgers, pizzas, wings, shareable favorites, and more. Your perfect dining experience takes place at DraftKings Sportsbook at Wrigley Field.”

And for groups, parties and events, the site suggests: “Celebrate together! Private booths and rooms can accommodate parties of all sizes. Whether you’re a group of 6 or 50, DraftKings Sportsbook is the perfect place for all occasions. Inquire today to start planning your perfect group experience.”

All very sweet.

However, it’s important to note two things. First, while the sportsbook is now open it’s for food and drink only. Retail sports betting is currently unavailable while DK awaits approval from the Illinois Gaming Board. But that could change as early as Thursday, July 27 when the board holds its next meeting.

The plan is to put in sports betting kiosks as soon as the approval is met. What’s awesome about the massive main screen is that it can be configured to show up to a couple dozen sporting events at one time.

Second, since it is a bar, it’s only for patrons 21 and over.

Blake Milburn of Marquee Development has a message for baseball fans:

"Why you are here versus sitting at home on your couch? You probably don't have that in your living room. We try to provide a unique one-of-a-kind experience.”

The design looks sweet.

Shawn Fawell, a design manager at Gensler, the company behind the construction, said that the building’s exterior was meant to remain old-school – Wrigley is 109 years old after all – which means that it with bricks and still beams it blends in with the classic look and feel of the Friendly Confines.

“You’ll see the Wrigley green on the structural elements so that it really felt like it was kind of almost, but not to be confused with being historic itself,” Fawell said.

Inside, though, it’s modern-day awesome. Early reviews on Yelp have been glowing, including for the food.

So the next time you’re in the Windy City for a Cubs game or otherwise, go check it out.

Before then, though, check out our sports betting site reviews. We rave about FanDuel Sportsbook but don’t overlook all the other great gambling options available in your state including DraftKings Sportsbook, BetMGM, and more.
