Did you know there are 26 casinos in Michigan? And that 13 of those casinos also offer online gambling, too?

Our Michigan casino map will help you find the best Michigan online casinos as well as their land-based counterparts. No matter where you are in the great state of Michigan, you can find plenty of casino games and sports betting options.

Is Gambling Legal in Michigan?

Yes! Michigan legalized betting at land-based tribal casinos back in 1996. The state recently legalized online gambling in 2019.

The Michigan casino map grew once this happened.

Michigan casinos must abide by the laws and restrictions dictated by the Michigan Gambling Control Board. Both online and land-based casinos must confirm the age of players before accepting bets, and online casinos must verify bettors are located within state lines.

Michigan Gambling Age

The gambling age for Michiganders is only 18 (though you do need to be 21 to place bets at Detroit casinos, as alcohol is served in these establishments).

Online Casino Laws in Michigan

The laws for online casinos are different from those for land-based casinos in Michigan. To place bets online in the state of Michigan, you must be at least 21 years old. Yet, Michigan also offers some 18 and up casinos, too.

As with land-based casinos, you must also be physically located within the state to place bets. Yet, since you don’t need to travel to an online casino, you’ll need to prove you’re located within state lines before placing bets.

All online casinos require bettors to download geo-tracking software and confirm their identity before placing bets.

If you travel outside of the state, you won’t be able to place bets on Michigan online casino sites until you return back to the state.

Also, not all online casinos are legitimate online casinos.

Michigan Casino Regulation

Michigan casinos and online casinos are regulated by the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

Michigan Casinos Vs Online Casinos

Land-based casinos offer a different experience to the one you’d find at Michigan online casinos — which isn’t terribly surprising. What most gamblers don’t expect is just how good of an experience online casinos offer, despite the fact that they’re not physically located on a casino floor.

Michigan casinos offer an unparalleled experience, while Michigan online casinos offer convenience and a slightly modified experience you’d get on a casino floor.

Casinos in Michigan

There are 26 casinos in Michigan, and many of these casinos are located on tribal lands.

Detroit is home to some of the most popular and high-end casinos in the Wolverine State, but that doesn’t mean you need to travel to the Motor City to get an unparalleled gambling experience.

Land-based casinos are located in every corner of Michigan, and each casino offers its own vibe, ambiance, casino games, restaurants, and entertainment.

No matter where you travel in Michigan (be it Mackinaw, Detroit, St. Ignace, Christmas, and more), you’ll find a land-based casino with plenty of gaming options.

Check the Michigan casino map to find the closest casinos where you can place bets within the state.

Michigan Tribal Casinos

All of Michigan’s casinos are owned and operated on tribal land. The first land-based casinos in Michigan were located in Detroit.

Today, all Michigan online casinos and land-based casinos are owned by tribal nations. The Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988 stated that since tribal nations are sovereign territories and not subject to the same state laws, tribal casinos could accept bets on their land.

Michigan Online Casinos

Michigan legalized online gambling in 1999. Now, there are 13 online casinos accepting bets from Michiganders.

The Michigan casino map also shows which land-based casinos are connected to online casinos.

To accept bets from Michiganders, online casinos must be affiliated with a land-based casino within the state. Michigan only allows for a select number of tribal casinos to hold licenses for online gambling. New casino sites are available all the time.

Michigan Casino Games

What types of games will you find at Michigan casinos? The same games you’ll find in any land-based casino, including ones in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and Reno.

Any good casino worth visiting will offer a selection of slot machines and table games.

Table Games

Some of our favorite games at casinos include table games. Popular table games at Michigan casinos include poker, blackjack, roulette, and baccarat.

Slots

You can’t visit a casino without stopping by the slots. Yes, it’s easy to be entranced by these one-armed beauties. But slot machines are popular for a reason.

Whether you’re into penny slots or high-roller machines, these games will keep you occupied for as long (or as little) as you want. Good slot machines should offer stellar graphics, satisfying sounds, and good payouts. Some even offer free slots online.

Michigan Online Casino Games

The games you find at Michigan online casinos may differ slightly from the ones at land-based casinos. Since you won’t play physical in-person games, you can get a little creative with these games.

Some of the most popular casino games to play online include video poker, live table games, and slots. Some even offer online casinos with free play. Also called free social casinos, these sites operate play from home sweepstakes.

Video Poker

Similar to table poker, video poker offers a thrill that requires both luck and skill. The concept is simpler with video poker than table poker.

Win or lose with one play. This is the perfect game for those who simply do not have the patience to wait out the long game.

Live Table Games

Online casinos bring the magic of the casino floor right to your living room. Get as close to an in-person table game as you possibly can, from the comfort of your own home.

Live table games are (as their name suggests) played live. Watch the dealer through a closed feed camera, and listen to their prompts through your device’s audio. Communicate with the dealer through the chat function.

The most popular live dealer games are usually poker, blackjack online free, and roulette.

Slots

Online slot machines don’t differ much from the real thing. Since most slot machines are now computerized anyway, you’ll get a similar experience at home as you would on the casino floor.

Many online slot machines are even the same as the ones you’d find in a casino!

Enjoy high-quality graphics and sounds as you place your bets with the push of a button.

Michigan Sports Betting

In 2019, Michigan also legalized sports betting. Now, the state is home to 26 casinos that also accept sports bets.

In the same year, the state also legalized online sports betting, and 14 online sportsbooks accept bets as well.

All online sportsbooks must be linked to a land-based sportsbook and casino in Michigan.

Michiganders may now place sports bets both in-person and online on major sporting events, including moneyline, parlay, and live bets.

Responsible Gambling in Michigan

Of course, responsible gambling in Michigan is a concern for both gamblers and lawmakers alike.

Luckily, the Gambling Acts dictate that both land-based and online Michigan casinos must put in place responsible gambling guardrails.

Casinos and sportsbooks must provide services for responsible gambling, such as setting betting and deposit maximums and allowing bettors to set their own daily, weekly, and monthly maximums in their accounts.

The state of Michigan also operates a problem gambling hotline for crisis intervention and treatment referrals. If you believe you or someone you know is suffering from gambling issues in Michigan, call 1-800-270-7117.
